And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:8-11
Most of the world paid no attention to the birth of a baby born in Bethlehem. The town was overflowing because of the Roman census that demanded everyone return to their ancestral home to be recorded. It is likely that there were other babies born during that same time. But the birth of Jesus was not just another baby coming into the world. It was the pivot point of all of human history. And though He was just a baby, having laid aside the glory that was rightfully His, Jesus was still the Lord and King of all.
While many ignored His arrival, a group of wise men traveled a great distance having seen the star in the sky that announced His birth. Though they were prominent and wealthy men, they were quick to acknowledge who Jesus really was. “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11).
As was true when Jesus was born, many people in our world today prefer to ignore Him, refusing to recognize that Jesus is the Savior, not just another teacher or prophet. Yet whether people want to acknowledge Him or not, the day is coming when they will have no choice. Those who reject Jesus most loudly today will one day kneel before Him and acknowledge He is Lord. We who know Him as Savior are already worshiping Jesus for who He truly is.
